Providing Support for Pelvic Health

If you’re experiencing a feeling of heaviness in your pelvic floor or have been diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse, you’re not alone. Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the bladder, uterus, or rectum shifts downward due to weakened pelvic floor muscles, leading to discomfort, pressure, and urinary incontinence. While surgery is an option for some, pessary fitting offers a non-invasive, effective solution to help manage symptoms and improve your quality of life.

What Is a Pessary?

A pessary is a removable medical device designed to provide support to the pelvic organs and alleviate symptoms of prolapse. Made from medical-grade silicone, pessaries come in various shapes and sizes to ensure a personalized fit. They are often recommended for individuals looking to avoid or delay surgery, as well as those who need additional pelvic support during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or to help manage urinary incontinence during daily activities and sports.

How Does a Pessary Work?

When inserted into the vagina, a pessary gently supports the pelvic organs, helping to maintain their proper position. This reduces symptoms such as pelvic pressure, urinary leakage, and discomfort during daily activities. Some pessaries can be self-inserted, while others require assistance from a healthcare professional.

Who Can Benefit from a Pessary?

Pessary fitting may be a great option if you experience:

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse – Support for the bladder, uterus, or rectum when they descend due to weakened pelvic floor muscles.

  • Urinary Incontinence – Helps reduce bladder leakage, especially during activities like coughing, sneezing, or exercising.

  • Discomfort During Movement – Provides relief from pressure and discomfort, allowing for greater mobility and confidence.

  • Pregnancy & Postpartum Support – Can help manage pelvic floor strain during pregnancy or recovery after childbirth.

What to Expect During a Pessary Fitting

1. Consultation & Assessment

Your provider will review your medical history, conduct a pelvic exam, and discuss your symptoms to determine the most suitable pessary type and size.

2. Personalized Fitting

Based on your anatomy and needs, a pessary will be selected and carefully fitted to ensure comfort and effectiveness. Some adjustments may be needed to find the best fit.

3. Education & Follow-Up

You’ll receive guidance on how to insert, remove, and care for your pessary. Follow-up visits will ensure continued comfort and effectiveness.
